The Premier League homegrown quota is one of the most obsessed-over and misunderstood parts of the squad building aesthetic in the sport.
Arsenal have faced challenges associated with the quota that often can be better understood by looking at it from the opposite perspective. What is more important to consider in the non-homegrown quota set out by the league rather than worrying how many players are in the squad that qualify as ‘homegrown.’
The Premier League allows 17 non-homegrown players maximum in a side’s 25-man squad. At present, Arsenal have 13. Bernd Leno, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soares, Gabriel Magalhaes, Nuno Tavares, Kieran Tierney, Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Martin Odegaard, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette. The summer arrival of Matt Turner will replace the likely soon to exit Leno, therefore, having no impact on the quota.
