Arsenal player ratings vs Southampton as Aaron Ramsdale drops clanger and Fabio Vieira anonymous

Aaron Ramsdale: Set the tone for the night with an unforgiveable mistake in the first 30 seconds. Never looked confident after that and was poor with his distribution. 4.

Ben White: Got forward well down the right flank and was actually a useful weapon offensively. Unlucky not to score just before half time. 6.

Rob Holding: After a tough time against West Ham last week, Holding actually did OK here. Could do little about any of the goals and was defensively fine if hardly tested at all. 6.

Gabriel: Totally lost Walcott for the second goal and looked ropey from that point on. He was poor against Southampton's diminutive forwards and was far from his best when distributing. 5.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: Totally lost his man for the third goal and was caught well out of position for the second. Offers a lot offensively but can leave you vulnerable defensively and that showed tonight. 5.

Thomas Partey: Could not keep the tempo of the game up as Arsenal looked to complete the comeback in the second half. Not really at fault for any of the goals though and better than last week. An atrocious decision to shoot at the end. 5.

Fabio Vieira: A ghost. Handed his chance with Xhaka's illness and did next to nothing in order to take it. Looked bereft of belief and on the odd occasions when chances came his way he showed a complete lack of conviction. Biggest shock of the night was to see him come out for the second half given the circumstances. 4.

Martin Odegaard: Gave the ball away for Walcott's goal. Tried his best to make amends by keeping the crowd and his team motivated. Provided a great ball to Saka in the build up to the goal. Scored late and showed superb leadership to fight till the end. 7.

Bukayo Saka: Arsenal's biggest offensive threat on the night. Provided a smart assist for Martinelli and could have had another for White. Was telling that Arsenal looked to him in their time of need. His late equaliser could be crucial come the end of May. 7.

Gabriel Jesus: Was intense as ever up top, but failed to take crucial chances when they came his way. On a night when Arsenal needed perfection from their forwards he was lacking. 5.

Gabriel Martinelli: Consistently got to the byline with typically direct and intense dribbling. Could have maybe provided better delivery once he got there. A well taken goal was one of few moments of Arsenal quality on the night. 7.

SUBSTITUTES -

Leandro Trossard: Felt like he should have come on at half time. Offered a lift when he was introduced but that quickly faded. 6.

Eddie Nketiah: Hardly did anything except block a shot from one of his own players. 5

Reiss Nelson: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
