Arsenal player ratings vs Inter: Gabriel Jesus makes statement as Bukayo Saka and Cristhian Mosquera superb

Arsenal maintained their perfect Champions League record with a 3-1 win over Inter Milan at the San Siro.

Gabriel Jesus’ first-half brace came either side of a stunning strike from Petar Sucic, before Viktor Gyokeres came off the bench to curl in late on and put the match to bed.

The win, Arsenal’s seventh in a row in Europe, secured their place in the top two with a match to spare, leaving next week’s game at home to Kairat as a dead rubber.

Here’s how Matt Verri rated the Arsenal players...

David Raya 6

Did not have a prayer with Sucic’s strike. Three comfortable saves aside from that and assured with his distribution. Two goals conceded in seven matches in Europe this season.

Jurrien Timber 6

Scuffed shot proved to be ideal assist for Jesus’ first goal. Not at his best defensively, losing six of his seven duels, and looked fairly tired. Replaced just after the hour mark.

William Saliba 7

Classy as ever. Had the physicality to match Thuram and progressed the ball nicely. Ideally would not have played the full 90 minutes but needs must with defensive injuries.

Cristhian Mosquera 8

Superb on first appearance in more than six weeks allowed Gabriel a rest. Two great blocks early to deny Thuram, who he had the better of, and decision-making was so impressive.

Myles Lewis-Skelly 7

Had a good chance inside a minute and played part in flowing move for Jesus opener. Firm in winning his 50-50 challenges too in a better showing, but looked sluggish whenever in a foot race.

Martin Zubimendi 6

Weak defending for Inter’s equaliser and had some sloppy moments on the ball. Missed Rice’s dynamism alongside him as he struggled to stop Inter running at Arsenal’s defence.

Mikel Merino 6

Booked for a bit of a swipe in the second half. Had little impact in the box but played more passes into the final third than any other player.

Eberechi Eze 7

Heavily involved in an electric Arsenal started. Picked up nice pockets of spaces and tested Sommer shortly after the break. Will be frustrated with lack of end product.

Bukayo Saka 8

Looked bang up for it right from the off and drove Arsenal forward. Unplayable at times and deserved two or three assists. Wasted huge second-half chance when taking too long to shoot.

Gabriel Jesus 9

Statement made. Two sharp finishes when in the right place and linked nicely with his team-mates throughout. Created a big opportunity for Saka. Must be a nuisance to play against.

Leandro Trossard 7

Bright yet again. Created the opener with header against the bar from a corner and volleyed just wide. At times held onto the ball too long but he was a constant threat.

Substitutes:

Ben White (Timber 64’) 6

Uneventful half an hour off the bench. Every chance he starts against Man United on Sunday.

Declan Rice (Eze 64’) 6

Introduction off the bench showed how much Arteta wanted this win. Booked in stoppage time and now suspended next week.

Gabriel (Mosquera 74’) 6

Vocal presence in screaming at his team-mates, ordering them around at the back. So often in the right place.

Viktor Gyokeres (Jesus 74’) 8

Just what he needed off the bench. Held the ball up well to draw fouls and then curled in a brilliant finish.

Gabriel Martinelli (Trossard 79’) 8

Brilliant cameo. Full of energy and drive, and played a sensational pass in behind leading to the third goal.
