Arsenal suffered defeat at the Emirates on Wednesday for the first time in seven months, as Brighton & Hove Albion pulled off a shock 3-1 victory in the EFL Cup third round.
Coincidentally - or perhaps not - the last side to beat the Gunners on home turf back in April, Roberto De Zebri's men came from behind to beat Mikel Arteta 's much-changed side.
Unfortunately for the Arsenal manager, his fringe players failed to come to the fore and reminded him that the January transfer window could be coming at a helpful time. In fact, the Gunners have already been urged to make a two signings in particular, with technical director Edu plotting to bolster the squad once again this winter.
Here's a round-up of the latest news from the Emirates.
Brighton pull off a shock
When Eddie Nketiah put Arsenal 1-0 up in 20th minute on Wednesday, all was well. The Gunners looked to be cruising to another win before 20-year-old Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein, making his debut for the club, rushed out and clattered former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck to concede a needless penalty.
Welbeck proceeded to score from the spot and prompted a Brighton comeback. Half-time substitute Kaoru Mitoma then notched his second goal in as many games just before the hour mark, setting up Tariq Lamptey to wrap up the win with 19 minutes of normal time remaining.

Gunners told where to make signings
Ex- Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand and Arsenal legend Ray Parlour have each recommended a player who Arsenal should sign in January. Speaking on his Vibe with FIVE podcast, Ferdinand named Wilfried Zaha - long tipped for a move to the Gunners - as his pick and explained: "He'd be good at Arsenal, I think. At Arsenal, he'd be a good challenge to the two [ Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli ] that are there and a good option. They should have bought him when they bought [Nicolas] Pepe!"
Meanwhile, on talkSPORT, Parlour earmarked Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and affirmed: "January will be important for a lot of clubs, we all know that transfer window. "There might be a bit of money there for Mikel Arteta to say, 'Right, we need another midfielder'. We need a Youri Tielemans, like when they tried to get him before."

Arteta understands Gabriel snub
Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes has been left out of Brazil 's star-studded squad for the World Cup but Mikel Arteta has no qualms with Selecao boss Tite. Speaking ahead of the defeat to Brighton, Arteta admitted: "For Gabi, it's a disappointment.
"But when you look at the squad that they [Brazil] have and the experience they have in that position, you have to understand that and it's another challenge for him. He needs to be ready for the next one, he needs to improve and carry on with the good things that he's been doing."
