Arsenal: Martin Odegaard issues new knee injury update ahead of Tottenham showdown

Martin Odegaard has played down concerns over his knee injury ahead of some crunch games for Arsenal in the title race.

Odegaard hurt his knee during Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford and, despite completing 90 minutes, was seen limping as he left the Gtech Community Stadium.

His form and fitness could be key for Arsenal in the run-in and the Gunners face a big week after their setback at Brentford.

That result means Manchester City are only four points behind Arsenal in the title race.

Arsenal face Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday before the north London derby at Tottenham next Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s side then face Chelsea at the start of March.

Wednesday’s game at Wolves presents Arsenal with a chance to re-establish a seven-point lead over Manchester City in the title race, in a game that has been moved forward because of the Carabao Cup final.

Games against Spurs are always huge but they have just appointed Igor Tudor after sacking Thomas Frank and this north London derby could be crucial to their title chances.

Odegaard is a major doubt for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wigan but the Arsenal captain says his injury “is not too bad”.

Writing in Arsenal’s match-day programme ahead of the Wigan game, Odegaard said: “I picked up a bit of an injury when they [Brentford] scored their goal, but hopefully it’s not too bad.

“We’ll see how it goes in the build-up to today's game and over the next few days.

“I tried to clear the ball as it came down, but instead kicked into the player a bit, and ended up over-stretching my leg, which pinched the knee.

“I was able to carry on, but on Friday morning it was very sore, so I was worried of course, but thankfully it looks like it’s not too bad.
