Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta responds to Kieran Tierney’s links to Newcastle

Mikel Arteta says he is “not thinking” about speculation linking Kieran Tierney with a move to Newcastle.

The Scotland international has fallen down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko and has been limited to only four Premier League starts.

With Arsenal looking to end their 19-year long wait for a Premier League title, Arteta has not made many unenforced changes to his team this season.

Tierney, a £25m signing from Celtic in the summer of 2019, is said to be of interest to Newcastle this summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging towards the top of the League.

Unlikely to be short of offers should he look to leave the Emirates Stadium, the 25-year-old is set to get his chance to impress Arteta as Arsenal prepare for the resumption of their Europa League campaign.

Speaking on Tierney’s future, Arteta said: “I don’t know, I’m not thinking about that.

“I’m thinking about the best for the team, and obviously earn the players with the right to play minutes, which they all deserve, and we’re going to try to do that in the next couple of games.”
