Arsenal make fresh Lisandro Martinez offer to follow Gabriel Jesus swoop but Ajax under no pressure to sell

Arsenal and Manchester United have been warned that Ajax are under no financial pressure to sell defender Lisandro Martinez this summer.

Both the Gunners and United are keen on Martinez, but Ajax are ready to play hardball over a player they value at around £45million.

After failing with an opening offer of around £26m, Arsenal remain in talks with Ajax over a possible deal.

Their latest proposal, worth approximately £34m, is currently being considered by the Dutch club.

Ajax are under no pressure to sell after already banking around £50m by selling Sebastien Haller and Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

Haller was sold to Borussia Dortmund for a fee that could reach £30m, while Gravenberch’s move to Bayern Munich could eventually be worth £20m.

The money has put Ajax in a strong position for the rest of the window.

Brazilian winger Antony is another player attracting interest from United but Ajax value him at between £70m to £80m. Such a fee is a stumbling block for United, who are expected to spend the majority of their transfer budget on a £60m swoop for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Arsenal view Martinez as an ideal defensive signing, as he is comfortable operating at left-back or in the heart of defence, while the Argentina international has also filled in as a central midfielder when needed.
