Arsenal loan star eyes William Saliba transfer trick repeat amid World Cup stage hope for USMNT

Arsenal loan star Auston Trusty has outlined his hopes to play for Arsenal in the future amid his desire to participate in the World Cup that starts this month. The 24-year-old has continued to impress during his loan spell with Championship side Birmingham City, where he has been a regular starter.

Under new boss John Eustace, the Blues have edged away from relegation fears, with their latest statement coming in a 2-0 victory over promotion chasers QPR. Trusty played his part at the back but also in attack as he opened the scoring with a stunning flick from a corner.

"He is going to be a top player," Eustace said via BirminghamLive when asked about the defender. "He is going to go back to Arsenal, whenever that is, at the end of the season & hopefully push for first team spot, and I think he certainly deserves to be going to the World Cup."

Trusty is yet to make an appearance for the USMNT at senior level but has throughout his youth career. His recent displays put him in the frame for such a chance. Speaking to MLS Soccer, he discussed those hopes and said: "I've been in a couple of camps before and been part of the team, part of the gameday squad for three games. But my mindset is to be in this World Cup, so that's the only mindset I have. I'm not looking further than that, just at this World Cup."

It could be an opportunity to show what he is capable of to his parent club on the big stage, with the USA facing off against the likes of England, Wales and Iran in the group stages. Trusty has also been keen to outline his desire to fight for a place at the Emirates Stadium once his loan spell ends.

It could see him replicate the development of William Saliba, who was sent on loan to gain the experience he needed to be able to slot straight into the side this season. When asked about his place at Arsenal, he said: "I'm in contact with them all the time, and my mindset is to get to Arsenal and play for Arsenal.

"It's probably the best club in the world right now, and I'm excited for it. "It's the perfect spot right now, and I'm doing my thing at an incredible organization in Birmingham. But, obviously, the goal is to play in the Premier League, play at a top team. That's where it's at."
