Arsenal line-ups vs Brighton with Jorginho decision, Tierney starts as Odegaard eyes record

90 points has to be the target for Arsenal if they're to have any chance of being crowned this season's Premier League champions.

To reach that total, they have to win all three remaining fixtures starting with Sunday's clash at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and hope for a slip-up from Manchester City along the way. To the Gunners' credit, they are doing their very best to keep the title race alive, but it's common knowledge that any more dropped points will almost certainly be decisive.

Playing after City face Everton at Goodison Park could be a good thing for the north London outfit as there's a scenario that sees them end the day top of the table, although they might find themselves under pressure to respond if Pep Guardiola's side emerge with all three points.

As confirmed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, William Saliba is unavailable for selection once again due to a back problem whilst it would appear that contrary to reports, Oleksandr Zinchenko's season is not over but is a doubt for the game with a calf injury which could result in at least one change from the side that started last weekend's win over Newcastle United.

But with Leandro Trossard, for example, among many players pushing for a recall and no other fresh injuries reported, could Arteta decide to freshen things up?

Not for the first time this season, football.london's Arsenal writers Kaya Kaynak, Tom Canton and Tashan Deniran-Alleyne are on hand to offer their assistance to the Spanish tactician. Below, they name their respective starting line-ups for the home side against Brighton.

Kaya Kaynak - Chief Arsenal Writer

The injury blows mean Mikel Arteta's options are slightly restricted, particularly at the back end of the pitch. Aaron Ramsdale is an obvious pick after another sublime display at Newcastle. While Kieran Tierney has to come in to replace Oleksandr Zinchenko, and I'd keep the understated, but impressive Jakub Kiwior alongside Gabriel.

In midfield, Brighton are a tricky team to come up against. You could argue that Thomas Partey may be the better option up against their blend of industry and technicality, but I don't see how you can drop Jorginho. The same goes for Granit Xhaka and the free-scoring Martin Odegaard.

Leandro Trossard might be a fun pick against his old team. Personally, I didn't think Gabriel Martinelli was great up at St. James' Park despite his impact on the second goal. I'd look to rotate him, with Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka completing my forward line.

Despite all the emphasis on what Mikel Arteta needs to learn regarding rotation, there are few I feel that would argue that consistency isn’t the best policy with just three games to go all spread out over three weeks. With the injuries Arsenal have suffered, there’s little need for change, especially when on a winning run.

That said, and speaking of injuries, Oleksandr Zinchenko is a serious doubt for this one and naturally that means Kieran Tierney comes in. The Scottish international was solid at Newcastle and the same will be expected of him with an unknown opponent to face considering Solly March’s own injury issues giving Roberto De Zerbi a choice on the right flank; an area that could be occupied by Arsenal’s own Reiss Nelson next season perhaps.

Elsewhere it remains the same. There was the temptation to bring Leandro Trossard back in and frankly, I’d be completely fine seeing him but the key mainstay for me is Jorginho.

The Italian has brought the calmness and composure back to the Arsenal side in the last two games, two attributes that are exactly what the Gunners need to end the season on a high. A Gabriel Jesus goal would be great and watch out for Martin Odegaard who has the chance to break Kevin De Bruyne’s record he matched last weekend for non-penalty goals by a midfielder in a single Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta was, as ever, not giving anything away with regard to team news in his pre-match press conference. But even if Oleksandr Zinchenko has a chance of facing Brighton, I wouldn't start him and for two reasons. One being there's no need to risk him at this stage of the season and the other is he's not been in great form defensively of late.

So regardless of the Ukrainian's situation, Kieran Tierney should get the nod at left-back and just like the Newcastle game, it makes sense for Arsenal to play to his strengths instead of asking him to replicate what Zinchenko does. That would be the only change to the back five as Jakub Kiwior starts again too.

There is a temptation to hand a recall to Thomas Partey especially as Brighton are very good in transition, but Jorginho's performances against Chelsea and Newcastle mean he has to continue in midfield alongside Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka on what could be his penultimate Emirates Stadium appearance if recent transfer rumours are to be believed.

In attack it's Arsenal's best trio with Gabriel Jesus flanked by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. There's an argument to start Leandro Trossard against his former club, but I think he would be better equipped coming off the bench at some point in the second half if the game requires it.
