Arsenal line-ups vs Brentford with Jorginho decision, Tomiyasu gets chance as Martinelli starts

Arsenal will be looking to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking when they welcome Brentford to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners have had a full week to reflect on the 1-0 defeat against Everton, although their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table remains intact following a favour from an unlikely source in north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who overcame Manchester City a little over 24 hours later.

With that said, it's only a good result if Arsenal beat Brentford - thus completing the double over the west London outfit this season, after the Gunners comfortably won the reverse meeting between the two sides back in September.

The good news for Arsenal is that Mikel Arteta hasn't reported any fresh injuries following last weekend's setback at Goodison Park which means he can name an unchanged team. However, with a big game against Man City on the horizon, could this cause the Gunners boss to rethink his line-up?

Not for the first time this season, football.london's Arsenal writers Kaya Kaynak, Tom Canton and Tashan Deniran-Alleyne are on hand to offer their assistance to the Spanish tactician. Below, they name their respective starting line-ups for the home side against Brentford.

Kaya Kaynak - Chief Arsenal Writer

The focus this week may well be on Manchester City for many, but Arsenal will be all too wary of slipping up against Brentford, who are on an impressive run at the minute. That's why if I were Mikel Arteta I wouldn't look to rest too many, even if there are a lot of big games next week.

Aaron Ramsdale is an obvious choice in goal, while there's no need to break up the partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba. Alex Zinchenko, meanwhile, is a must despite his late bust-up with Neal Maupay last week.

One place where I'd be tempted to make a change is at right back where I feel Takehiro Tomiyasu's aerial dominance could be helpful against a Brentford side who have scored the most goals from set pieces in the league this season.

In midfield, I wouldn't change anything, so it's Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard again, even if the Norwegian was a little poor at Goodison Park last week.

Up front, there is an argument for Leandro Trossard to get his chance after an underwhelming display from Gabriel Martinelli. Personally though, I feel Martinelli is the exact kind of guy who can cause Brentford's immobile back three problems, so I'd stick with him alongside Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka.

Kaynak's Arsenal XI vs Brentford: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli.

Tom Canton - Arsenal Writer

I went back and forth around the idea of rotation but with such a crucial game on Wednesday, Arsenal need all their stars to be ready and raring to go and in form for the game. Rotating out say Gabriel Martinelli for Leandro Trossard was an option, however, the best way to arrest a slide in form is to allow a player to get themselves back into it.

Seeing Thomas Partey fit and ready in training this week was a big win for the club with his removal from the game last Saturday seeing a goal conceded just seconds later. Jorginho’s presence is an interesting one but he should be playing only when necessary, with the Ghanaian so key to what the Gunners want to do.

Ben White was the other player in potential contention for a swap with Takehiro Tomiyasu. However, if Arsenal are to beat City in midweek, then having an in-form White will be a huge help and he deserves the chance to play himself back into that form.

In any of these cases, if they’re not doing well then a change can be made and that replacement can make their case to start against the title challengers. But make no mistake, the focus must be on Brentford, this is the most important thing in Arsenal’s world right now and as Mikel Arteta says, we take things one step at a time.

Tashan Deniran-Alleyne - Arsenal Writer

For the first time in a while, maybe the whole season thus far, it feels like there could be some rotation with regard to Arsenal's Premier League starting line-up through choice rather than it being forced upon Mikel Arteta due to injuries within the senior squad.

It's worth pointing out that the Gunners play three times in the next eight days - including Wednesday night's huge clash at home to Manchester City - so it would be a surprise if the team doesn't get freshened up one way or another.

As a result, one change I can see for the Brentford clash is at right-back, with Takehiro Tomiyasu being handed a chance over Ben White, who has struggled in his last two appearances. Otherwise, it's the same back four in front of Aaron Ramsdale who will be desperate for a home clean sheet.

The only other alteration to consider is in attack, with Leandro Trossard a popular choice amongst some supporters to replace Gabriel Martinelli on the left-hand side. I, however, would still opt for the Brazilian to start in the hope that he can play himself back into some type of form.
