Arsenal legend's controversial man of the match call vs Bournemouth with Martin Odegaard snub

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith was spoilt for choice when picking his best player against Bournemouth with two players scoring, three different players assisting and everyone contributing to an impressive victory on the south coast.

Gabriel Jesus once again stood out for his new side but William Saliba's stunning third goal rounded off an excellent display in their 3-0 stroll at Bournemouth. Captain Martin Odegaard grabbed a brace to set up the fine display for Mikel Arteta's side whilst Granit Xhaka's own personal U-turn continued.

The win sent Arsenal back to the top of the league, albeit in the early stages of the season, but at this point last term they were bottom with no goals scored. Arteta has already seen his team score nine times this campaign.

It has made positive appraisal of the entire team easy with improvements coming all over the field, a good thing for the manager and even better for the joyous fans, who now have the belief that this could be the start of something special.

When trying to choose who the best player on the pitch was, former Gunners striker Smith had a tough call, making a controversial choice to omit Odegaard, instead choosing Arsenal's new talisman Jesus.

He said: "Odegaard could've easily got it, two goals, superb. Bit of bias from a No. 9 myself, the role he [Jesus] played for the first goal alone I think deserves to win the Player of the Match and everything he has done since. Unlucky to not get on the scoresheet but what an addition Gabriel Jesus has been and will be."

Jesus did have the ball in the net in the second half but it was ruled out for offside and the 25-year-old looked heartbroken to not get on the scoresheet, being unable to add to his first two goals that he scored for the club last weekend against Leicester.

Ultimately, Arsenal fans won't be too bothered who wins the immediate awards, especially when they are playing this well and winning matches.
