Arsenal keen on Kai Havertz but Chelsea’s £75m asking price too high

Arsenal are interested in Kai Havertz but unwilling to go near Chelsea’s £75million valuation.

The 24-year-old forward is open to leaving Stamford Bridge and has two years remaining on his current contract, which is among Chelsea’s more expensive at £250,000 a week.

Real Madrid have previously shown an interest in the Germany international but are expected to switch focus to long-time target Kylian Mbappe, who is ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

It has left the Gunners as Havertz’s best option but he remains priced out of a move to any club. Bayern Munich have long held an interest in bringing the former Bayer Leverkusen back to his homeland, but will not pursue a deal this summer.

Chelsea are open to keeping Havertz should no substantial offers arrive, though it remains to be seen if club’s transfer chiefs are prepared to drop their valuation should interest increase.

Mason Mount’s situation is almost identical. The homegrown midfielder is valued at £70m which Manchester United are reluctant to pay.

The 24-year-old is ready to leave west London but is stuck waiting for Chelsea to drop their price as United are unwilling to match that price for a player with one year left on his contract.

Mateo Kovacic is also in talks with Manchester City. Rivals are aware Chelsea need to sell to slim down their squad to a more manageable size for incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino next season.

The bloated 32-man squad is believed to be a factor behind Chelsea’s disappointing 12th-place finish last season.
