Arsenal have reportedly expressed an interest in signing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, either before the end of the month or in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from French news outlet Foot Mercato, who say that the 22-year-old is valued at around €30million (£25million), the Gunners 'could jump at the chance' to sign the Dutchman before the window concludes.
Liverpool and Manchester City have both been credited with an interest in Gakpo in recent days, but now Arsenal are said to have entered the mix.
The young Dutchman has been in fine form for PSV this season - scoring six goals and providing 10 assists in 16 Eredivisie appearances.
Gakpo, who has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in Eindhoven, looks to be destined for a top team in the future, according to PSV chief John de Jong.
He said to De Telegraaf, via Team Talk, recently: "Gakpo will of course not stay in Eindhoven forever. He will go to a top club in a top league in the future. Or will that happen next summer? That is hard to say."
What has been said about Gakpo's future?
Dutch football legend Marco van Basten recently warned Gakpo against leaving the Netherlands, following the supposed interest from the Premier League.
"He has been in the Eredivisie for a year now," Van Basten told Voetbal4U, via Sport Witness. "You have to have a basis to succeed abroad. That is three, four years in the Netherlands.
"Then you are just a big stronger, a bit better prepared for the higher level abroad - because it all goes much harder and faster. But nowadays, they all want to leave after one year.
"The sooner you leave, the greater the chance of not succeeding. If you do not succeed in those two, three years, then you go to another club that is less. Then your career is going to look very nasty."
Van Basten added: "They are constantly approached by that agent saying: 'Look, you can earn that there. You can earn that at that club'. It is far too much about buying those guys off.
"What you have to do is sit in an attic room and ask yourself: 'Is this what I want?' Then when you think you’re ready, you go."
