Arsenal have been handed a potential transfer lifeline in their reported pursuit of Serge Gnabry this summer. It comes after a huge claim from Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director over the future of the winger.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to the Emirates as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad for the upcoming season. The last campaign saw the Spaniard fall short of a return to the Champions League, with the summer window offering the perfect opportunity to strengthen.
One of the first names through the door is midfielder Fabio Vieira, though he looks set to be the first of a few incomings at the club. Discussing further signings, director Edu told the official Arsenal website “We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.”

Quality in depth appears to be the most pressing issue, with the right-hand side of the forward line an area for strengthening. Leeds United winger Raphinha has been linked with a move to the Emirates, playing on that flank for the Yorkshire side.
However, so has former player Gnabry, whose future is currently up in the air. The 26-year-old left Arsenal six-years ago for Werder Bremen, moving to Bayern Munich just one-year later.
In his time in Bavaria, the winger has won 12 trophies, scoring 64 and assisting 40 in 171 competitive appearances. With just one-year remaining on his contract, there remains uncertainty surrounding his stay in the Bundesliga, with links to a move back to the Gunners.
While it may be unlikely this summer, the north London side may have been handed a potential transfer lifeline by Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić. He told Sky Germany, via Fabrizio Romano: “We really want to keep him.
“I hope that he chooses Bayern. If a player doesn't want to decide for the club, then we can find a solution that makes everyone happy.”
Should he be looking to make the move away, that solution could play into Arteta’s hands, but it remains to be seen whether a deal could be reached over his return.
