Arsenal handed Moises Caicedo transfer boost as Brighton close in on potential replacement

Arsenal have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Brighton star Moises Caicedo, with the Seagulls set to sign another midfielder in the form of Mahmoud Dahoud.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Seagulls are closing in on a free transfer for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Dahoud, who plays in a somewhat similar role to that of Caicedo. Writing on Twitter, Romano said: "EXCL: Brighton are closing in on verbal agreement to sign Mahmoud Dahoud as free agent.

"#BHAFC Deal’s now very advanced, waiting to fix final details and then sign documents. Could be 3rd signing after João Pedro [done] and Milner [almost done] — if all goes to plan."

Of course, this doesn't mean that Caicedo is definitely going to leave the Amex Stadium this summer but the player has previously made it no secret of his desire to play for one of Europe's biggest clubs. After Arsenal saw a £60 million offer for his services rejected back in January, the player took to social media urging the Seagulls to allow him to leave.

His Instagram post read: "I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

"I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador. I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

"The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity."

Mikel Arteta and Gunners' fans will have the opportunity to watch Caicedo at close quarters on Sunday, with Arsenal playing Brighton in the 4:30pm kick-off on Sunday.
