Arsenal given huge Cody Gakpo transfer hope ahead of Mikel Arteta's PSV scouting mission

Arsenal have been given potential hope in their move for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo in the upcoming transfer windows, according to the latest reports. The Gunners were linked with a switch for the 23-year-old in the summer, but failed to get a move over the line to add depth to their forward line.

football.london understands Gakpo would be open to a Premier League move, but any decision over his future will be made after the World Cup. That's because he will be looking to have an impact on the tournament with the Dutch national team, which he has become a more regular feature in since making his debut last year.

Amid such interest, PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted a departure for Gakpo was inevitable: "It's not only Premier League clubs after him. His quality and form over the last three or four months has been exceptional. His stats and goals draw the attention of big clubs in European football. He is 23 and is focusing on his career with us at club level and having a great World Cup. He wants to continue that. When the time comes he will make decisions."

The winger could be a perfect fit for the Gunners too, given their need for more depth in the wide areas - particularly on the right where Bukayo Saka is the only senior option. It seems as though a move for him is a possibility as Fabrizio Romano reports that his situation has changed.

With a move to Leeds and Southampton on the cards back in the summer, the journalist reports that a switch to a club of higher stature may be more likely, with top European clubs monitoring the situation. That could give the Gunners the hope they need to land him, given he may not be guaranteed his place in the lineup compared to other sides.

Mikel Arteta also has the opportunity to scout Gakpo for himself when his side face PSV Eindhoven for the second time in a week on Thursday night. It remains to be seen if the club will then take the leap to making a move, but it could see them land a gem.
