Arsenal fans continued to question Premier League officiating as Craig Pawson decides not to send off Newcastle United's Joelinton against Aston Villa.
The north London outfit have received four red cards in their last six outings, with their most recent coming during Thursday night's 1-0 victory away to Wolves.
Brazilian attacker Gabriel Martinelli was handed two yellow cards for two fouls in the same sequence of play, a decision that left Gunners manager Mikel Arteta bemused.
“I’ve never seen that,” the Spaniard said after the game. “I’ve been 18 years in this country and I’ve never seen something like it.
“We made it even more difficult for ourselves playing with 10 men. We suffered a lot in the last 10 minutes. I’ve never seen something like it."
Now, Arsenal fans have taken to social media to point out the inconsistency of officiating in the English top-flight, with Newcastle star Joelinton only receiving one yellow card after fouling Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia numerous times in transition.
Here is what a select few supporters said on Twitter
@CarlBovis_AFC: "So Joelinton committed 3 yellow card offences in 5 seconds, yet gets just the one booking. Martinelli gets 2 bookings for 2 fouls in 5 seconds and is sent off! Do these strange 'rules' only apply to Arsenal players @FA?"
@jordandaviesj: "Joelinton just committed three fouls in the space of a few seconds on Buendia, all worthy of a booking. Yet he is not sent off, arguably because he does not play for Arsenal..."
@chaz_west01: "Joelinton makes 3 fouls in 1 passage of play but because he’s not wearing an Arsenal shirt he only gets 1 yellow card."
@ayo1touch: "Joelinton 3 fouls, same passage, yellow card. Only Arsenal seem to be punished maximally in every single scenario."
@SaffaGooner10: "Is that not technically 3 yellow cards for Joelinton? Or would that only be for Arsenal?"
@ArsenalAndrew: "So, Joelinton, 3 yellow card level fouls in 6 seconds. Result: a single yellow card. How strange, Michael Oliver, how strange."
