Arsenal eye Gabriel Martinelli transfer trick repeat as Mikel Arteta makes move for midfielder

Speculation continues to heat up as the January transfer window draws closer and closer, with Arsenal at the forefront of a possible drive for reinforcements. It comes after an ideal start to their season, sitting top after 12 games played ahead of champions Manchester City.

However, the depth of the squad has once again been called into question as the side look to compete deep into every competition this campaign. That said, Mikel Arteta was more than happy with the business the club conducted during the previous summer window.

"We had a lot of things still to do with squad. Look at the departures compared to what we've recruited. The club has done a phenomenal job to bring players with the profiles we wanted," Arteta told reporters

The only concerns came late in the window when a number of injuries hit the midfield department, creating the late move for Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian never made the switch though, staying in the Midlands and eventually signing a new deal with the club.

With the former Manchester City man unavailable, attentions appear to have turned to a fellow countryman as the Express reports that a January move is being weighed up for Palmeiras' Danilo. The 21-year-old continues to impress after claims that club scouts were sent to watch a recent outing.

It could be a move that replicates the transfer of Gabriel Martinelli, who had signed from Brazil to become the superstar he is becoming now. It remains to be seen if Danilo will join and if he can hit the current heights of the winger, however it could prove to be a shrewd signing that boosts their chances in the title race.
