Arsenal 'end interest' in Donny van de Beek and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Donny van de Beek this summer look to be over after Erik ten Hag was appointed Manchester United manager, according to reports.

Ten Hag has been officially announced as United's new boss, with the 52-year-old set to take over at Old Trafford at the end of the campaign. The current Ajax manager’s arrival could provide a big boost to Van de Beek’s hopes for next season.

Van de Beek has been left frustrated by his lack of opportunities so far at United, with the midfielder currently on loan at Everton as he looks to get more playing time under his belt. Having made a name for himself under Ten Hag at Ajax, he could be set for a new lease of life at Old Trafford.

While that could be good news for United fans, it will come as a blow for Arsenal. According to Football.London, the Gunners’ hopes of landing Van de Beek now look to have been dashed.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to north London last summer, with Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu planning to bolster their midfield options. The Gunners opted to sign Albert Sambi Lokonga instead as well as sealing a permanent deal for Martin Odegaard.

Nevertheless, Arsenal fans called for their club to target Van de Beek again during the January window before he made the move to Goodison Park. Any plans to revisit a deal this summer now look to be over following the confirmation of Ten Hag’s appointment.

Elsewhere, United are reportedly set to face competition from Liverpool for the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with United set to make the engine room a priority in the summer.

Rumours earlier this month suggested Ralf Rangnick had given his approval for United to go after Laimer. According to Kicker (via Sport Witness), they look set to be challenged by their old rivals, with Liverpool reportedly also looking at him.

Bayern Munich are also said to be in the picture. Laimer’s contract runs until 2023 and the Austria international reportedly doesn’t want to hold any talks over his future until the end of the season.
