Arsenal defender Gabriel sends critics six-word reply after Chelsea win boosts top-four hopes

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has sent a message to his critics following his side's 4-2 win against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The north London outfit went into the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on a torrid run of form after losing three league fixtures on the bounce. However, they were able to steady the ship and produce an excellent display in west London, with Hale End academy graduates Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka scoring four goals between them to clinch all three points for the first time since last month's 1-0 victory against Aston Villa.

Despite their attacking prowess, the Gunners looked lackadaisical at the back, with the likes of Rob Holding and Ben White struggling, particularly in the first half. However, one defender that looked assured was Brazilian star Gabriel, who produced a solid display - making a goal-line intervention to save his side on two separate occasions.

The former Lille centre-back had received considerable criticism from some sections of the club's fanbase over the last few weeks and he took to social media after the win against the Blues. His tweet read: "In difficult times believe in yourself."

Mikel Arteta's men are now level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who they will face next month. But first up is Manchester United, who they welcome to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ralf Rangnick will take charge of the visitors, with new boss Erik ten Hag not due to take over until the summer as he sees out the season with Ajax.

The Red Devils won the corresponding fixture 3-2 back in December thanks to goals from Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.
