Arsenal dealt Youri Tielemans and Djed Spence blow as Tottenham join £40m transfer race

Tottenham could put a dent in Arsenal’s transfer plans by signing two of their transfer targets in the upcoming summer window, according to reports. It comes as both sides come off the back of an enthralling race for the top four in the Premier League.

It was a battle that was, eventually, won by Spurs on the final day of the season, turning over already relegated Norwich City 5-0 at Carrow Road. It booked a return to the Champions League, something much-needed for Antonio Conte’s project at the club.

Discussing the achievement, the Italian said: “It's very very difficult - to reach a place in Champions League I have to consider this a really big big achievement for me and for my players, and also for the club consider this a big achievement after three years Tottenham is able to play again in Champions League. For us it's very important because the best players, the best coaches want to play in this competition, for this trophy. We must be pleased for what we did.”

As for the Gunners, they failed to reach the top four, despite holding the advantage heading into the final few games. For Mikel Arteta and his men, it means they will have to play Europa League football next campaign.

The summer for the Spaniard could be crucial in building a deep squad with enough quality to challenge once again. A number of names have been linked with a switch to the Emirates in an attempt to do just that.

However, they may have been dealt a blow by their near rivals as ESPN reports that Tottenham are interested in a move for duo Youri Tielemans and Djed Spence. The pair have been heavily linked with being on the radar of Arsenal in particular.

Tielemans, who is entering his final year under contract at Leicester, is said to be available for £25million this summer, with a new contract unlikely. As for Spence, the Middlesbrough full-back - who has been on loan at Nottingham Forest - has shown plenty of promise and the Championship side are said to be willing to listen to offers around the £15million mark.

With the pair linked to Tottenham, it could see the north London outfit deal a blow to their nearest rivals, given their increase in funds due to Champions League qualification and £150million cash injection.
