Arsenal consider David Raya transfer bid after new Brentford encouragement

Brentford have encouraged Arsenal to move for David Raya, as the Gunners consider a formal offer for the Spanish goalkeeper.

Arsenal have revived their interest in Raya and Brentford are ready to sell the 27-year-old this summer.

But the Bees have made it clear that they value Raya at £40million despite him only having one year left on his contract.

Raya, who is also wanted by Bayern Munich, would compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the starting job at Arsenal.

Ramsdale impressed last season but made some errors late in the campaign as their Premier League title challenge collapsed.

“I would love to get £40million, that's what he's worth," said Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

"I think he's one of the best goalkeepers. He was one of the four best goalkeepers in the Premier League last season, so what is the price? What did Declan Rice go for? One year left [on his contract] and £105million.

“Is that the price? Is that fair? And [Harry] Kane, you're talking one year left and £150million. For a goalkeeper he is at his best age, I think.”

Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana could be key to their pursuit of Raya. Cana used to work for Brentford and has had a huge influence on his career.

If Raya were to come in, Arsenal would want to sell current No2 goalkeeper Matt Turner and he is reportedly a target for Nottingham Forest.
