Arsenal are hopeful of tying down Ben White to a new contract.
The Gunners are in talks with the defender which are progressing well, leading to optimism that a deal will be struck.
White has been in fine form for Arsenal ever since they splashed out £50million to sign him from Brighton in the summer of 2021.
The 26-year-old’s current deal does not expire until 2026, but Arsenal have initiated talks anyway to reward him for his performances.
The club have also made a push to tie down the core players of their squad over the past year, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba signing new contracts.
White joined Arsenal after excelling as a centre-back for Brighton and Mikel Arteta initially played him in that position.
The manager then shifted White to right-back last season, following the return of William Saliba from three years out on loan, and he has proven excellent in that role.
“I think he’s progressed in the right way in the past few years,” Arteta said earlier this month.
“He had a little bit of a difficult start which is normal because it was a big jump. There are different expectations as well to play in different positions.
“He showed a lot of determination and courage to overcome all of that. He has a big personality. He copes with pressure really well. He has a lot of quality that he gives us in different positions. He’s a key player for us.”
