Arsenal transfer chief Edu has finally managed to get the better of Juventus with the Serie A side admitting defeat in their pursuit of Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Italian giants were noted as admirers of the Brazilian defender earlier this summer with them being keen to bolster their defence following another underwhelming season both on the domestic and European front.
Following an impressive couple of seasons in north London, it was thought that Gabriel would be an ideal candidate to step into the role and previous reports suggested that the Gunners would demand a relatively conservative fee of £33.8million (€40m) for the former Lille star.
Despite that, it appears that Juventus will now not be making a move for the Brazilian having decided on an alternative target in the form of Torino’s Gleison Bremer.
Reports have suggested that Juve are ready to splash €47m (£40m) on the 25-year-old and he will become Matthijs de Ligt ’s direct replacement in Turin after the Dutchman himself completed a move to German giants Bayern Munich.
With Leonardo Bonucci, Daniele Rugani and the returning Federico Gatti all already at the club, it appears unlikely that the Old Lady will enter the market for another big-money centre-back, especially with the signing of Bremer.

That decision will see Arsenal finally beat off the advances of Juventus, with the two sides having been competing for signings in the past. The Gunners - as well as their Italian counterparts - were interested in the services of midfielder Manuel Locatelli last summer after a hugely impressive Euros.
Despite Arsenal’s interest, the Italian switched to the Juventus Stadium on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.
It was a similar story during the January transfer window too. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having been allowed to leave for Barcelona, the Gunners needed attacking recruits.
Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic was high on their shortlist after a stunning first-half of the 2021/22 campaign. Once again though, the Gunners were beaten to the punch in their efforts to sign the Serbian as he sealed a £66m move to Juventus.
Of course, negotiations between the two sides have not really gone to plan in the past either. Arsenal were reported to be interested in a loan deal for Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo in the winter window but a deal could not be done with the former Barcelona man remaining in Italy for the remainder of the campaign.
The Gunners remain in the hunt for midfield recruits this time around with Leicester star Youri Tielemans emerging as a target.
