Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham face easy transfer decisions with USMNT trio in relegation battle

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham could be handed one of the easiest transfer decisions of the summer if Leeds United are relegated from the English top-flight. The West Yorkshire-based side are now ten Premier League games without a win after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend.

United States men's national team stars Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson all featured in some capacity at Goodison Park as the Toffees reigned victorious after a shot from Seamus Coleman caught Illan Meslier off guard. McKennie and Adams started alongside one another in a double-pivot, anchoring Leeds' midfield.

Aaronson replaced Crysencio Summerville with half an hour to play as Michael Skubala's side looked for a late equaliser. Despite the American's best efforts, neither he nor his fellow countrymen could break the deadlock.

Leeds now sit second bottom in the Premier League on 19 points; West Ham are a point ahead in 18th; Southampton trail by a point in 20th. If the Whites find themselves relegated at the end of the season then a number of their star players could be available for a cut-price fee, namely Aaronson and Adams.

The latter of whom was once heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. Speaking to the press ahead of England's clash with the US at the World Cup in Qatar, the Leeds star opened on speculation tying him with a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

"I grew up a huge Thierry Henry fan," Adams said. "I think partially because obviously he was great for New York Red Bulls, but also growing up I watched a lot of Arsenal games and I admired him, how he played the game."

If the USMNT duo are available for a cut-price fee then Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham and will undoubtedly be handed some of the easiest transfer decisions of the summer. On the other hand, if Leeds escape the drop, McKennie is likely to play an integral role in the club's survival.

The 24-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea before joining Leeds on loan from Juventus in January. Former USMNT star and Spurs shot-stopper Brad Friedel even urged his former club to sign McKennie after he impressed against the Three Lions in Qatar.

"If the finances work then Tottenham should definitely be in for McKennie. He’s the best central midfielder the US has ever had," the American told Online Casino. "Against England he showed his quality and I think he’d be a brilliant addition for any big side in Europe."

"I think Gareth Southgate was being honest in his post-match interview and it was refreshing to see," added Friedel. "[Gregg] Berhalter got his formation spot on and England didn’t predict it so he has to get a lot of credit for that.

"I texted him after the game and said 'great job' as playing that formation was start and putting Weston McKennie on the right really confused the England players. He’s never played there before and playing a rigid 4-4-2 formation really worked well.

"I understand that England fans get frustrated but Southgate was only being honest in his interview and perhaps the US aren’t getting enough credit for their display."
