Arsenal Chelsea and Tottenham braced for big change after West Ham Europa Conference League win

West Ham United's Europa Conference League final win booked them a place in next season's edition of the Europa League.

Jarrod Bowen scored a dramatic late winner for the Hammers to beat Fiorentina after Said Benrahma had a penalty cancelled out by Giacomo Bonaventura. Bowen latched onto Lucas Paqueta's through ball and buried the chance to send West Ham players and fans into dreamland.

They will now be competing in the Europa League next season having missed out on qualification through their finish in the Premier League after ending the season in 14th place. The Premier League will now see eight teams playing in European competition next season.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United have qualified for the Champions League while Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion finished in the Europa League spots. Aston Villa will play in the Europa Conference League next season by virtue of finishing in seventh and West Ham will gear up for another tilt at European competition after winning the Europa Conference League.

With changes to the Champions League format coming into force in 2024, the Premier League could get five spots for qualification into European football's premier competition. This would be good news for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur given competition for a place in the top four has become so fierce over the last couple of seasons.

However, the Premier League may be restricted to four depending on how next season goes for English clubs in European competition. Each win will be worth less in terms of coefficient points because of the high number of English teams in Europe.

As of 2023/24, two leagues with the highest average coefficient score will be granted an extra spot in the Champions League and it would go to fifth place in their division. It will be in the best interests of Premier League top-five hopefuls that the eight clubs heading for Europe perform well next season.
