Mikel Arteta has insisted he was never close to joining Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching staff at Tottenham in 2016, because his history with Arsenal means he can never work at Spurs.

Arteta took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, but before that he spent over three years working as part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff at Manchester City.
