Arsenal backed to beat Tottenham in race to sign Adama Traore after latest transfer news

Martin Keown has called on Arsenal to rival Tottenham in their bid to try and sign Adama Traore this month.

The 25-year-old sees his contract with Wolves expire at the end of next season, with an agreement over a new deal at Molineux not imminent, it seems.

football.london understands that Spurs are looking to manufacture a loan move for Traore, with the option to purchase his services at the end of the season.

However, Arsenal have now been told by their former defender Keown that they should look to storm in and hijack any deal for the Spaniard this month.

Speaking on BBC's Final Score show over the weekend after seeing the winger score for Wolves in their win over Southampton, Keown said: "I feel Traore is awesome at times and just for once, we have the satisfaction of seeing it.

"It is a lovely finish from him. I would sign him if I was a manager. Arsenal - get in and buy him."

What has been said about Traore?

Wolves boss Bruno Lage gave an update on the situation of Traore last week and confirmed the club had received no offers for the former Barcelona man, despite interest from Tottenham.

When asked if there had been offers for Traore, Lage said: "No. For now, I know nothing.

"About Adama, the only thing I can say, it’s the same Adama since the first day. Every time training well, being the good professional he is. He is here with us, wants to play for us and always works hard."

He added: "If you look at the 19 or 20 games we have had, he has started at least half of the games. When he hasn't been in the first XI, he jumped from the bench to help the team.

"I am very happy with the four wingers I have. They can give me a lot of things."

Lage did accept, however, that we could see Traore away from Wolves before the end of the month.

He said: "In my mind, yes, nothing changes. But this is football. The club has talked with Adama before, he has one year left on his contract, and I need to understand that.

"It's not just about Adama, if it’s good for the club and the player, we need to find a solution. For now, I want to keep the four wingers I have.”
