Arsenal already have their own Thiago Silva as William Saliba gets huge FIFA 22 boost

After a very impressive 2021/22 campaign with Marseille, Arsenal youngster William Saliba has been awarded a big FIFA 22 upgrade.

After an impressive loan spell at Nice during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, many expected Saliba to challenge for a place in the Arsenal team during the 2021/22 season. But the club instead secured another loan move for the youngster back in July, with Saliba joining Marseille on a season-long loan.

And the 21-year-old has thrived in Ligue 1 this season, securing the division's Young Player of the Year award after an impressive individual campaign in which he's made 36 appearances so far. Marseille finished the season in second place, behind PSG and ahead of AS Monaco, with the Les Phocéens having one of the best defensive records in the division, conceding only 38 goals.

Following his impressive individual performances, Saliba has been given a significant FIFA 22 upgrade by EA Sports in the latest database update. EA Sports release database updates every few weeks, to try and keep player attributes and ratings as realistic as possible.

In the latest FIFA 22 database update, which went live on Thursday, May 19, 2022, Saliba's short passing has been upgraded from 77 to 78, his ball control has been upgraded from 74 to 76, his composure has been upgraded from 72 to 74, his sliding tackle has been upgraded from 78 to 79 and his reactions have increased from 77 to 78.

Saliba's potential rating has been upgraded from 86 to 87 overall, with his overall rating staying at 79 out of 99. To put this potential rating into context, Saliba can now exceed the overall rating of players like Antonio Rudiger (86), Milian Skriniar (86), Kalidou Koulibalu (86) and Thiago Silva (86) on FIFA 22.

But more significantly, Saliba's potential means that he could far exceed the best players at Arsenal on FIFA 22, with Thomas Partey being the highest-rated Gunners player at 84 overall. And, only Bukayo Saka (89), Martin Odegaard (89) and Gabriel Martinelli (88) have a higher potential ability than Saliba following the latest update.

No current Arsenal players have been impacted by the latest FIFA 22 update, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been downgraded slightly. The latest database update for FIFA 22 is now live on all platforms from Thursday, May 19, 2022.
