Arsenal 2-0 Everton: Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman strike late as Gunners go ten clear

Arsenal temporarily moved ten points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Everton on Saturday.

The Gunners looked to be on course for a frustrating goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium until Viktor Gyokeres popped up with the breakthrough late on before youngster Max Dowman sealed the win in stoppage time.

In wrapping up the win, Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history to take Arsenal one step closer to a first title in 22 years.

The result means the Gunners now lead Manchester City by ten points, though Pep Guardiola’s side have the chance to reduce the gap back down to seven points when they face West Ham later tonight.

Come May, Arsenal may look back on this as a pivotal weekend in the title race as they did not have it all their own way against an Everton side who came into the game with the fourth best away record across the entire division.

While the hosts dominated the beginning of the game, it was the Toffees who had created the better chances by the halfway point, including a woodwork-rattling attempt by Dwight McNeil.

Everton continued to make things difficult in the second half, but the introduction of Gyokeres and Dowman just after the hour proved a particularly prescient choice by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.

It was Dowman's cross which proved critical in Gyokeres finally breaking the deadlock with a minute remaining, then the teenager sent the home support and his boss into a frenzy when he added a stoppage-time cushion.
