Arsenal 1-0 Burnley: Pressure piled on Man City as Gunners close in on title

Arsenal are just one game away from becoming Premier League champions after their 1-0 win over Burnley on Monday.

Kai Havertz, who replaced Viktor Gyokeres in a surprise change to the Gunners’ lineup, rose highest to nod home a Bukayo Saka corner in the first half.

The German was mightily fortnuate not to be dismissed for a second-half lunge on Lesley Ugochukwu, with replays showing the forward to have planted his studs on the visiting midfielder’s standing leg as he lunged from behind.

VAR checked the foul, which warranted a caution from the referee, but deemed the incident worthy of no further punishment.

The result has the north Londoners five points clear of rivals Manchester City with one match to play, and Pep Guardiola’s men must beat Bournemouth on Tuesday or concede the title.

Should City draw or lose in Dorset, then Arsenal will be champions for the first time since 2004.

More to follow.
