A MAGISTRATE has issued an arrest warrant for a parcel thief who failed to appear in court on Thursday.
Barry John Dodd, 38, was arrested at a shopping centre in Newcastle on July 18 after police received a report that parcels had been stolen from the front of a home at New Lambton a week earlier.
When Dodd was arrested, police found methamphetamine and cannabis and he was later charged with larceny, trespassing and two counts of possessing drugs.
He was granted bail by police to appear in Newcastle Local Court on August 15, but was a no-show on that date.
The matter was adjourned until Thursday for Dodd to appear but when he failed to show again Magistrate Caleb Franklin convicted him in his absence and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Mr Franklin fined Dodd a total of $1280 for the trespassing and drug charges, but issued a warrant for his arrest so he could be brought to court to be sentenced for stealing the parcels.
