New York police have made an arrest in connection with the brutal assault of a 45-year-old woman in The Bronx. The suspect, identified as Kashaan Parks, was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with attacking the victim on May 1.
The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, shows the assailant throwing a belt around the woman's neck, choking her unconscious, and dragging her between two parked cars where the sexual assault occurred. The video footage, which circulated widely online, prompted the NYPD to seek the public's help in locating the suspect.
Following the attack, the victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and is currently in stable condition. The NYPD confirmed that Parks, 39, was wanted in connection with the assault and has not yet been arraigned.
As of May 5, there have been 511 reported rape cases in New York City, the same number as last year during the same period, according to NYPD data.
