Arrest made after Paisley disturbance as man, 54, taken to hospital

A man has been arrested and another hospitalised following an incident in Paisley this afternoon.

The incident occurred on Broomlands Street with police taping off the area between Kingston Street and Castle Street around 2.30pm.

Officers have also closed off the National Cycle Route 75 near to Broomlands Street.

A number of police officers are in the area along with numerous police vehicles.

A 54-year-old man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, police have confirmed.

The popular cycle track, which is located around 200 metres from Broomlands Street, has been sealed off at its Maxwellton and Canal Street station entrances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.30pm on Thursday, May 4, we were called to reports of a disturbance on Broomlands Street, Paisley.

"Officers attended and a 54-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing."
