A 25-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after he was assaulted on a double decker bus in central London.
The victim sustained a serious head injury in the attack on a 94 bus in Oxford Street on Tuesday.
He was found with critical injuries and was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Friday.
Scotland Yard has confirmed a 20-year-old man has been arrested in Lambeth on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was arrested in the early hours of Friday by detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command as part of a pre-planned operation.
He was taken to a London police station where he remained in custody on Friday afternoon.
Police said the victim’s injuries were “a result of blunt force trauma”.
Oxford Street was cordoned off next to John Lewis following the incident on Tuesday, with a 94 bus parked at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Dougall, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “This was a very serious, violent assault, which has left a young man in hospital critically ill.
“My officers have been busy carrying out a number of enquiries since the attack, and this has resulted in a man being arrested this morning.
“I would like to thank those people on the bus who have already come forward, but we are still appealing for those with information who have not yet spoken to us to do so. This includes anyone who was driving along Oxford Circus or Regent Street with any dash cam footage, please check your footage.”
