The federal Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health has chosen its first teams to build artificial intelligence agents designed to help manage heart failure, including adjusting medications with limited human involvement. The awards under the program, called ADVOCATE, went to health tech companies Atman Health, UpDoc, and Tempus AI and to teams from Stanford University, Duke University, and Kaiser Permanente, according to ARPA-H's announcement of the first selected research teams.
ARPA-H describes ADVOCATE as a four-year, $62.7 million program and has committed up to $33.7 million for the first year. STAT reported that the remaining funding may be renegotiated up or down. UpDoc said its award is worth up to $9.2 million and that Microsoft, OpenAI, and NVIDIA are supporting its team.
