A man has been left "in shock" after a sinkhole opened underneath him in Arnold. Patrick Collins, of Carlton, was walking through Arnold with his wife and sister when the incident happened at around 12pm on Wednesday, May 24.
The 58 year old said: "We were just walking down to cross Bond Street next to the Arnold Labour Club. I was just walking down talking to them and the next minute I've gone, I've just sunk through the tarmac.
"One of my legs had gone right down and in." Patrick explained that a passer-by got out of his car to help him out the hole, saying: "He helped me out the hole and sat me on the wall.

"I just wanted to get home as I suffer with anxiety and don't get out much." He explained that the whole incident has "just shook me up" as it's not something anyone can expect to happen.
Patrick continued: "It was just all hollow under there. I just think that the tarmac where I stood sunk and it just took me straight down by the leg.
"All afternoon my knees have been throbbing and it's been coming out from my back as well. The doctor's had a look and said it's just really bad bruises, I'm lucky I haven't broken anything.
"It's just the shock and everything, you don't expect it. It just went and I dropped." Patrick expressed concern over the condition of the roads and pavements in the area, and feels the situation could have been a lot worse.
He stated: "It could have been a baby in a pram, or a wheelchair or scooter, it's not good." Following the incident, the sinkhole was reported to the County Council.
A highways manager at Nottinghamshire County Council said: "A collapse in the carriageway on Bond Street in Arnold was reported to us yesterday. Our Incident Response Team attended site to barrier the area and make it safe.
“The site has been reported to Severn Trent Water for investigation and a plan for repair will then be made.”
