Arne Slot appears to be in pole position to become Tottenham's next permanent manager with reports in the Netherlands expecting him to depart if a deal can be struck. The move being confirmed is far from close though and there will be some inevitable complications that will occur if the Feyenoord boss enters negotiations with Spurs.
Firstly, even before any formal talks should take place, Tottenham need to appoint a director of football after Fabio Paratici's exit earlier this year. The club are understood to have created a three-name short list of options including Roma's Tiago Pinto and ex-Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Tim Steidten along with one other unknown name.
If that director is appointed and determines Slot is the man to be brought in, Spurs must pay a compensation fee to the newly-crowned Dutch champions. The price of that is said to be in the region of £6million - a price linked to a release clause that kicks in next summer - to free Slot from his contract, according to the Daily Mail.
