Arne Slot confirms Liverpool star ruled out for weeks after injury setback

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been ruled out until "towards the end of the season”, Arne Slot has confirmed.

The goalkeeper missed the Champions League defeat at Galatasaray last month with an injury sustained during training, but returned in time to face Tottenham and the second-leg victory over the Turkish side.

However, another problem ruled him out of the defeat to Brighton before the international break - and Brazil's two fixtures soon after - and now faces another spell on the sidelines.

Slot on Friday confirmed Allison would miss the upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, and added: "He will not be part of the PSG game either, (he is) out for a bit longer. Towards the end of the season, we expect him to be fit."

Mohamed Salah was another who missed the defeat at Brighton, but has returned to training and will face City.

Slot said: “Yes, he is [available], he trained with us yesterday, he will train with us today and is available for tomorrow.”

However, there was better news on Alexander Isak, who is ready to return to first-team action four months after suffering a broken leg.

The £125million striker is not yet fit to start games, with Hugo Ekitike shaking off a fitness scare to line up against City, but hopes for a short run-out at the Etihad Stadium.

There remain question marks over Jeremie Frimpong's fitness after he was forced off with an issue while playing for the Netherlands earlier this week.
