Two unidentified militants were killed in an anti-infiltration operation of the security forces in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
An Army spokesman said the security forces foiled an infiltration bid in the Sabura Nala area of Uri in the wee hours. Contact with the infiltrators was established after the Army spotted the movement of militants.
“Infiltrators were challenged by the security forces, leading to a firefight,” the Army said.
Security forces killed two infiltrators in the firefight. However, only one body was retrieved by the Army from the encounter site, officials said.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, Lt. Gen. Navin Sachdeva and J&K Director General of Police R. R. Swain held a meeting in Poonch, a district close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pir Panjal Valley.
An official said the two officers co-chaired a joint security review meeting “to discuss smooth and synergised operations and maintain peace and security in the region, in view of the ongoing situation and upcoming events”.
