Army chief in chilling China war alert saying 'we won't have a clue it's coming'

A former army major general has warned China could attack at any moment and the war will be sharp and fast.

Australian Senator Jim Molan believes China could achieve all its desires in terminating American influence from the western Pacific and getting Taiwan back in its hands by attacking US resources in the region.

He also chillingly added: "Whatever it will be that war will be high technology, it will be sharp, it will be fast – and we won't have a clue that it's coming."

Aggressions from China against Taiwan began following the visit of Nancy Pelosi, United States' House Speaker, to the disputed island.

She has now been sanctioned by China for her "vicious" and "provocative" actions, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Friday.

"Despite China's serious concerns and firm opposition, Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan, seriously interfering in China's internal affairs, undermining China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, trampling on the one-China policy, and threatening the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait," a ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

China views Taiwan as part of its nation in a breakaway province and President Xi Jinping is desperate to officially recapture the island, saying he would annexe it by force if necessary.

Ms Pelosi's visit made her the highest-ranking American official to visit the self-ruled island in 25 years, aggravating autocrat Xi Jinping.

China has now ramped up its military presence to try and force the island to accept Chinese rule and has begun firing missiles.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that China's firing of missiles around Taiwan is a "disproportionate, significant and unjustified escalation" and the United States has made it repeatedly clear to Beijing that it does not seek a crisis.

Blinken told a news conference that the United States would not be provoked by China but that Washington was seriously concerned, adding "there was no possible justification for what they have done".

Mr Molan thinks that once American influence is removed from the Western Pacific "they [China] say to Taiwan, well, Taiwan, what are you going to do now".

"Are you going to fight on without the Americans backing you up? Of course, they're not," he added to Sky News Australia.

Because of this, he believes Australia should be very careful about its commitment to the United States if such a doomsday scenario comes to fruition.

China has been hoping to extend its influence in the Pacific and solidified this in April when they signed a controversial Solomon Islands-China security pact, which raised alarm bells for the United States and Australia.

The Australian government also voiced concerns over its increased presence in the region, particularly about another new security agreement between the Solomon Islands and Beijing.

This agreement gave China the power to potentially set up a Chinese military base less than 2,000km from Cairns, on Australia's tropical northeast coast.

China is desperate to increase its presence in the region to thwart US military power in the potential Taiwan conflict.
