Armie Hammer's dad dead at 67: Business titan Michael Armand Hammer dies from cancer

Armie Hammer's dad Michael has died aged just 67.

Business titan Michael Armand Hammer died on Sunday after being ill for 'quite some time' with cancer, TMZ has reported.

Michael is survived by his wife, Misty, as well as his sons Armie and Viktor.

A representative for the family confirmed the news to People on Tuesday, saying in a statement, “Michael Hammer has passed away after a long, hard fight with cancer and is now at peace.”

Throughout his 67-years of life, Michael enjoyed an incredibly successful career.

The American businessman worked at an investment banking firm in New York City before getting involved with Occidental Petroleum - the company his grandfather, Armand Hammer, helmed for years.

The successful businessman moved Occidental's HQ to Los Angeles in the late 1980's and soon became the Vice President of the company, landing a seat on the Board of Directors.

Throughout his business career, he continued to reign over Hammer Productions as well as the Armand Hammer Foundation, Hammer Galleries, and the Hammer International Foundation.

According to Michael’s sister, Casey Hammer, the businessman was left with most of their grandfather’s $40 million fortune.

She claimed in a recent Discovery+ docuseries titled 'House of Hammer' that she inherited only $250,000 of Armand’s money, while her dad, Julian Hammer, got $500,000 and Michael received the rest of the estate.

Michael's sister Casey also revealed the darker secrets about her family’s history, including allegations that her and Michael’s father would allegedly shoot guns at her.

In a 2017 interview with Vulture, Call Me By Your Name actor Armie opened up about the 'serendipitous' way his mother Dru Ann Mobley originally met Michael on an airplane.

"My dad was supposed to be on a flight, went to the airport, and got hammered and passed out. He missed his flight, woke up, and was like, 'Oh God, I have a meeting.' So he had to go to all the airlines and he got the last seat available on this tiny airline called Muse Air, which doesn't even exist anymore," said Armie at the time.

"He's tall. He's 6'2 and extremely claustrophobic, so after sitting in this middle seat for a while, he stood up and said, 'I'm so sorry, everybody, but I really can't do this. Is there anybody who might be willing to switch seats with me?' "

Armie went on: "And the person next to my mom was like, 'Yeah, I'll switch seats with you.' So he sat next to my mom, who was traveling with her boyfriend at the time, though he was asleep for the whole flight.

"After they'd been talking for a while and hitting it off, my dad was like, 'Is that your boyfriend?' And my mom said, 'Nope.' And that was how it all kind of started."
