Staff injured during robbery at Paisley store on Boxing Day as police launch manhunt

Police are hunting a thug duo in connection with a robbery in Paisley yesterday.

The suspects struck on Boxing Day around 10.30am at the Best-one store on St James’ Street in the town centre.

Cops say two men entered the shop; threatened and assaulted staff, and demanded money, which led to one of the workers receiving “superficial injuries”.

The Paisley Daily Express understands that somebody working in the shop was punched in the face as they tried to prevent the assailants accessing the cash register.

After failing to get into the till, it is said the suspects then left on foot, with three packets of cigarettes stolen from the shop, in the direction of Caledonia Street.

Paisley police’s criminal investigation department are appealing for anybody who might have seen the incident – or who has information that could help them identify the suspects – to get in touch.

CCTV in the area is being reviewed and there is also an appeal to motorists with dash-cam footage.

Police have described the first man as being white, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, and that he was wearing a black face mask with a white logo on the front, a dark green hooded raincoat with the hood up, dark navy blue tracksuit bottoms with three light blue lines down the leg and black trainers.

The second man is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and he was said to be wearing a black parka-style raincoat with a fur lined hood that was up, denim jeans and dark trainers.

Detective Constable Robert Young, of Paisley CID, said: “One staff member received superficial injuries as a result of the incident.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify the men responsible, including reviewing CCTV from the area and we are asking anyone with information which could help to identify the men to get in touch.

“In addition, we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and can help with our investigation to get in touch, including if you were driving and have dash-cam footage.”

Contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1092 of Monday, December 26, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
