Armed police swoop on estate and man is arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Police rushed to a "domestic incident" on a housing estate in a Welsh town in the early hours of this morning, Friday, May 5, and have now confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers from North Wales Police attended a property in the Clawdd Poncen area of Corwen in Denbighshire at 2.35am this morning and soon called for armed officers to join them at the scene. They later arrested a 27-year-old local man in connection with the incident and said an increased police presence would remain in the area following the incident, as reported by our sister site NorthWalesLive.

North Wales Police said it recognised that local people would be concerned by the incident - but said they'd like to reassure residents that they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the "isolated" incident. A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We were called at 2.35am today to reports of a domestic incident in the Clawdd Poncen area of Corwen. Local officers, dog handlers and armed response officers attended. A 27-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody."

Detective chief inspector Chris Bell, of North Wales Police major investigation team, added: "I appreciate there will be concerns within the local area, and I would like to reassure residents that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the wider community.

"Extra officers will be on patrol in the area to alleviate any concerns anybody within the community may have."

Anyone who may have information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to contact North Wales Police via its Live Chat service or by calling 101, quoting reference number A06 60 20.
