Armed cops swarm Scots bus station after 'passenger tried to take on sword'

Armed police have swarmed a Scots bus station after a passenger allegedly tried to take a sword on board this evening.

Officers received a report of a man with a weapon at Halbeath Park and Ride in Dunfermline, Fife, at around 7.40pm on Sunday night.

Footage taken from the scene showed a number of armed police at the scene.

A second image showed the suitcase opened up with police carrying out enquiries nearby.

At around 7.45pm an eyewitness said on Twitter: "Drama at the Halbeath Park and Ride.

"Some guy tried to take a sword on the Megabus."

It's understood the bus, which was bound for Edinburgh, was evacuated.

A man was detained, but later released as no criminality was established following police enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received reports of a man believed to be in possession of a weapon on Reid Street in Lochgelly around 7pm on Sunday, 16 April, 2023.

“Officers attended and the man was traced a short time later at Halbeath Park and Ride.

“Further enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established. Suitable advice was given to the man and there was no further police action.”
