Arjun Tendulkar Reveals the One Reason Why Yuvraj Singh Is His Idol After Sachin

Picked up by Mumbai Indians in the 2021 mini-auction for INR 20 lakh, Arjun had to wait patiently for his chance, not featuring in a single game that season. The franchise retained faith in him in 2022, signing him for INR 30 lakh, but his debut finally came in 2023, where he played four matches. Despite being retained again in 2025, he did not get any game time, prompting a move to LSG ahead of the current season in search of more consistent opportunities.

Ahead of the new IPL season, Arjun appeared on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, where he opened up about his cricketing influences. When asked to name his idol apart from his father, he quickly chose former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Speaking about what he admired most, Arjun said it was “obviously his batting,” highlighting Yuvraj’s impact as one of India’s most iconic match-winners. When questioned about Yuvraj’s bowling, Arjun added with clarity, “He was a spinner, I am a pacer.”

Yuvraj Singh, a key figure in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, has continued to shape Indian cricket through mentorship in recent years. During the COVID-19 break, he worked closely with emerging talents like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, helping them refine their skills. His guidance has been particularly influential for Abhishek, who has since risen to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings. Established players like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have also sought Yuvraj’s expertise during crucial phases of their careers.

Arjun himself has benefited from Yuvraj’s mentorship, having trained with him in the past. He revealed that he has worked on improving his backlift ahead of the upcoming season, aiming to enhance his overall performance.

Now at Lucknow Super Giants, Arjun faces a crucial phase in his career. After a relatively quiet stint with Mumbai Indians, expectations are higher as he looks to prove his worth in a new setup. His potential inclusion in the playing XI for LSG’s season opener against Delhi Capitals on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium could be a defining moment, setting the tone for what lies ahead in his IPL journey.
