A Democratic congressional candidate in Arizona says she was struck on the head, lost consciousness and woke to find a man sexually assaulting her while she was repairing a campaign sign in August 2026.

Bernadette Greene-Placentia, who is challenging Republican Representative Abe Hamadeh in Arizona's 8th Congressional District, described the alleged attack in an interview published by Phoenix New Times on 7 October. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating, with spokesperson Dave Moyer declining to discuss the case because it remains open.
