The 2024 Tony Awards will see a familiar face as host, with Ariana DeBose set to lead the event for the third consecutive year. The Academy Award winner and Tony Award nominee previously hosted the 2023 and 2022 ceremonies and will return to helm the show on June 16. This year, the Tony Awards will be held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, marking a new location for the prestigious theater event.
DeBose, known for her acclaimed performances on Broadway in productions like “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” “Hamilton,” and “West Side Story,” expressed her excitement at the opportunity to host the Tonys once again. She will also take on the roles of producer and choreographer for the opening number, promising an unforgettable celebration of Broadway's achievements for both the theater community and viewers at home.
Despite the challenges posed by last year's Hollywood writers’ strike, DeBose received widespread praise for her hosting skills, which included leading a script-less show and delivering a dynamic opening performance at the United Palace Theatre. Her efforts earned her an Emmy nomination for her hosting work.
The 2024 Tony Awards will feature a three-hour main telecast airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. EDT/5 p.m.-8 p.m. PDT. The pre-show will be available on Pluto TV, where some Tony Awards will be presented. Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards will be announced on April 30, following the eligibility cut-off date of April 25 for the 2023-2024 season.
Notable winners from the previous year's Tony Awards included “Kimberly Akimbo” for Best New Musical and Tom Stoppard’s “Leopoldstadt” for Best Play. Sean Hayes and Victoria Clark were recognized for their performances in “Good Night, Oscar” and “Kimberly Akimbo,” respectively.
The Tony Awards, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, continue to honor excellence in live Broadway theater, showcasing the talent and creativity of the industry's brightest stars.
