Argentinian artist Trueno wants the world to know rap and hip hop in Spanish is as "raw and authentic" as it is in English - INTERVIEW

MIAMI - Argentinian rap and hip-hop sensation Trueno is making waves in the music world with the release of his latest album, "El Último Baile," and his first U.S. tour. Inspired by his travels through the heart of hip-hop in Brooklyn, Trueno's new work pays homage to the genre that has profoundly influenced his career.

Trueno, whose real name is Mateo Palacios Corazzina, grew up immersed in the vibrant sounds of rap and hip-hop in Buenos Aires. Born in 2002, he experienced the genre's evolution through the influence of legends like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. His father, a significant figure in the Argentinian hip-hop scene, further shaped his musical journey.

A real life museum

In an interview with the Latin Times, Trueno shared his transformative experience of visiting iconic hip-hop locations in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. "In 2021 and 2022, I traveled to the United States for the first time. Walking through the streets of Long Beach, South Beach, and the Bronx was like living in a hip-hop museum," he said. "Seeing the murals, the homes of famous rappers, and meeting the local communities was incredibly inspiring."

Trueno was particularly struck by the strong presence of Latin culture in these neighborhoods. " I was amazed by the amount of Latinidad and the sense of belonging I felt there. It was a surreal experience to meet people who recognized me in the Bronx," he added. He was also moved when he confirmed the deep connection between rap and hip-hop music in English and in Spanish.

"The young people in the cities share the same needs and wants, particularly those living in poor areas. Our stories are as powerful in English as in Spanish. They are as raw and as authentic" Trueno said.

"El último baile" as a contribution to the culture

This journey enriched his understanding of hip-hop and influenced the creation of "El último baile." Trueno explained, "Recording in studios across Los Angeles, Miami, and New York made me feel like I was in the birthplace of the music I love. The 50th anniversary of hip-hop in 2023 was the final push I needed to dedicate this album to the culture."

"El Último Baile" showcases Trueno's commitment to representing the new generation of hip-hop artists. "This album is for all the young people who grew up with hip-hop and want to take it forward," he said. Despite relying on translation tools, his dedication to blending Spanish and English lyrics highlights his desire to bridge cultures and connect with a broader audience.

"El Último Baile World Tour 2024"

The album's release on May 24 marked the beginning of Trueno's ambitious "El Último Baile World Tour 2024." The tour kicked off on June 7 in Guatemala and will conclude on December 19 in Santiago de Chile, with more dates to be announced. Fans eagerly anticipate his performances, which promise to bring the energy and passion of his music to life on stage.

The North American leg of his tour starts next week in San Francisco, on August 10th, with a presentation in the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, then he goes to Los Ángeles, New York, and Miami. After shows in Spain and South America. He returns to the continent for five concerts in Mexico.

Trueno's rise in hip-hop is a testament to his talent and dedication. As he continues to tour and share his music, he remains committed to honoring the roots of hip-hop while pushing the genre forward. "Hip-hop is universal," Trueno emphasized. "It's in reggaeton, dembow, and almost every chart-topping song today. It's about giving a voice to those who don't have one."
