Argentina’s José Torres Gil has made history by claiming Argentina’s first-ever individual medal in cycling at the Paris Olympics, securing a gold medal in the men’s BMX park final at Place de la Concorde. His impressive score of 94.82 not only earned him the gold but also marked the first gold medal for a South American nation at the Paris Games.
In a closely contested final, Great Britain’s Kieran Reilly finished in second place with a score of 93.91, while France’s Anthony Jeanjean, a crowd favorite, took the third spot with a score of 93.76.
Despite facing an early setback with a crash in his first run due to a failed trick landing, Jeanjean displayed remarkable resilience and skill in his second run. The home crowd rallied behind him, believing he had done enough to secure the top spot. However, his score fell just short of Torres Gil’s first run, and Reilly ultimately surpassed him with a strong performance in the final run of the competition.
